New thinking in hard times: achieving better outcomes
Considering the heart and kidneys in the management of Type 2 diabetes
The management of type 2 diabetes can be complicated by many factors. It is commonly associated with the presence of co-morbidities which challenges its management.
This interactive case study session will illustrate some of the practical considerations when dealing with a person with type 2 diabetes and co-existent cardiovascular disease and declining renal function.
With an emphasis on the need for multifactorial intervention, there will be a summary of the latest guidance on the management of hypertension and dyslipidaemia in those with diabetes, and a focus on combination therapy for dysglycaemia to reduce CVD events.
Recently attention has focussed on the impact of glucose-lowering therapies on cardiovascular risk and there will be an update on cardiovascular outcome trials.
