Real life issues & answers: The diabetic patient

Speakers: ,

In association with Diabetes UK

Among diabetes-related complications, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality and adverse outcomes in people with Type 2 diabetes. Over two-thirds die from CVD and even more suffer serious CV-associated complications. There is a two to four-fold increased risk of coronary artery disease and a decreased life expectancy of 6-7 years for those with the condition compared to those without.

The management of Type 2 diabetes can be complicated by many factors and a person’s ability and willingness to self-manage their condition is a crucial factor in determining their outcomes.

This interactive case study session will illustrate the need for a multifactorial approach that addresses hypertension and dyslipidaemia alongside blood glucose management. Drawing on the latest clinical guidelines and providing a brief update on the glucose-lowering therapies with cardiovascular benefit the session will focus on a range of tips and tools to support those with Type 2 diabetes and co-existent cardiovascular disease.
