Real life issues & answers: The mental health patient

Understanding the interaction of cardiovascular and mental health problems is critical to ensuring access and quality of care. Creating a scientific understanding of links between biological, emotional and social for each individual is required of all clinicians. And creating the right organization support for us is almost as important.

I will base the talk around 3 cases using the new SHERPA model for multimorbidity as a clinical decision making framework:

  • Young individual with schizophrenia not meeting Qrisk criteria, but clear metabolic syndrome in the making.
  • Individual with dementia and high CVD risk – need to consider prescribing.
  • Individual with depression and mood lability and anger and IHD – not engaging with care.
