Nicholas Antony Boon studied Medicine at Cambridge University and the Middlesex Hospital Medical School. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in 1986 and developed a special interest the management of acute coronary syndromes (heart attack) and interventional cardiology. He retired from clinical work in November 2014 but is still involved in a variety of academic activities including teaching and research. He has published more than 250 papers in peer review journals on a wide range of topics, including both HIV and the heart and the cardiovascular effects of air pollution, and was the senior editor of the 20th edition of Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine. He served as a trustee and a member of the Council of the British Heart Foundation for more than 15 years and was President of the British Cardiovascular Society from 2007-2009.
