Professor Kirby has been a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences of the Centre for Research in Primary and Community Care at University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, England. He was a GP in Letchworth for 36 years and his clinical work for the last 12 years has been at The Prostate Centre in London, where he dealt with cardiovascular, metabolic, urologic, sexual and endocrine problems. He qualified at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.
Professor Kirby has an extensive list of publications, having authored or co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed articles, 30 books, and numerous book chapters. He is past Editor-in-Chief of Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal and a member of the Editorial Boards of The British Journal of Primary Care Nursing, The British Journal of Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine, International Journal of Clinical Practice, the European Heart Journal, and a regular contributor to the Diabetes and Primary Care Journal.
ESSM and BSSM Member and late Treasurer, co-author of the recent BSSM Erectile Dysfunction & Testosterone Guidelines. Professor Kirby also participated in the development of UK treatment recommendations for post-surgical and post-radiation erectile dysfunction.
Member of the Prostate Cancer Risk Management Programme, Scientific Advisory Group, and National Prostate Cancer Audit Group.
Trustee of The Sexual Advice association (SAA). Developer of the SMART SAA App for advice on, ED, PE, testosterone deficiency and female sexual dysfunction.
Professor Kirby is past Director of HertNet: The Hertfordshire Primary Care Research Network of 50 Practices, and held two sessions a week in cardiology throughout his GP career, he provided open-access echocardiography service for patients with heart failure for the North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust. His special interests include sexual medicine, cardiology, diabetes, osteoporosis, men’s health, urology, and education.
