The British & Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS) is the leading professional forum for hypertension and cardiovascular disease in the UK and Ireland. Founded in 1981, the Society brings together clinicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals dedicated to reducing the burden of high blood pressure and related conditions through research, education, and policy advocacy.
BIHS delivers internationally recognised guidelines, supports clinical research, validates BP monitors, and hosts an Annual Scientific Meeting each September. As the authoritative voice in hypertension prevention and management, BIHS is committed to driving meaningful change in healthcare.
Collaboration is key to meaningful progress. BIHS works in close partnership with affiliated societies, professional networks, academic institutions, and global health organisations to share knowledge, coordinate action, and amplify our collective impact.
Whether it’s advancing research, co-developing educational content, or shaping national health policy, together, we will have greater impact. By strengthening these alliances, we can raise the profile of blood pressure health and improve outcomes for people everywhere.
An Annual Scientific Meeting is held every September in the UK or Ireland which is open to members and non-members alike. Prizes are awarded at the meeting for the best submitted abstracts.
